Mediator's Report

For those of you that have no idea what I'm referring to, a bit of background. After the BC physicians and the former NDP government of BC were unable to agree on almost anything, they finally came up with a dispute resolution plan in which an independant mediator would be mutually appointed by both parties and the decisions of this mediator would be binding on both parties. A supreme court judge, whose name I can't remember right now, was chosen as the mediator and he was still in the process of deliberating the issues last year when the BC NDP assumed its proper position in the garbage bin of history. Initially the new Liberal government indicated that they would abide by the rulings of the mediator, but experienced a sudden case of amnesia when the mediators report came out last fall. The Lieberals dealt with this unanticipated threat to their weltanschaung in the same venerable tradition that delusional politicians have utilized in an unbroken line stretching back to King Canute; they attempted to legislate the problem out of existence. Despite the inability of King Canute to utilize the power of his divine right bestowed on kings to influence the course of the incoming tide, the BC Lieberals have chosen to view King Canutes unanticipated result secondary to application of legislative power as an isolated aberration. In the matter of BC physicians, they consider that they only need to make the appropriate ritual incantations in that house of magic, the Victoria parliament buildings, and that immediately the citizens of BC will do their bidding. Sorry Gordon, reality doesn't work that way.
